Looking ahead to the holidays and time for more painting. Time to get some commissions underway...time to get cozy for the cold times ahead...time to prepare for the new year...crossing fingers...time to reflect and be grateful.
We must look for the small acts of kindness that we can and gift giving may be part of that, so here are my updates and a few gift suggestions. I have to be hopeful xxx
Just now, I am in New York having taught an Orkney Woodcut Workshop at the Woodstock School of Art. We had some beautiful autumn weather and some terrific prints were achieved. I am back on their schedule for 2025, so keep tuned. Learning a new art technique could become one of your ways of finding calm and peace. Or consider giving a friend the gift of a workshop at the Woodstock School of Art.
Meanwhile in Orkney, my artist in residence at the Ness of Brodgar has a much changed definition. All the trenches at the Ness of Brodgar are now filled in.
The spoil heaps are gone and the panoramic view has been restored. I painted the last view of the center standing stone in trench P on the day it was it covered over. In fact, I started the work, looked up and it was under the earth. I was also able to return a few times more while the excavators were finishing up trench P and caught the end of Structure Twelve's visibility.
Only FOUR of my original paintings painted over the past 2 seasons are available to purchase at this time. All the proceeds supports the Ness which in turns support the research and the researcher. With each purchase of the work for sale online at the Ness you support the Ness.
Only all the visitors, the volunteers, the supporters, and the Orkney voles will remember the hive of activity for the past 20 years. Check out the numbers related to this extraordinary site I have called my painting home since 2011 - Numbers at the Ness .
BUT, you can still support their ongoing research with donations and purchases. I have released copies of 6 of my Orkney woodcuts inspired by designs and landscapes of the Ness. See choices here: https://www.nessofbrodgar.co.uk/product-category/cards-prints/
And there is a great SPONSOR A FIND that is a great gift giving idea. I have put a number of reasonably priced prints and original paintings to their Shop for the holidays.
You can purchase a reprint of my painting above, that was used to highlight the finest decorated stones at the summer exhibition of the Ness at the Orkney Museum.
This is also a reprint of Structure Twelve at the Ness using the Orkney Woodcut technique, a variation of the Provincetown Print.
And don't forget that I have many high quality prints for sale on my website, JeanneBouzaRose.com including Orkney landscapes, Orkney's Standing Stones, and more of the Ness of Brodgar.
Let us hope 2025 proves less exciting and stays safe for all. and that the standing stones of Orkney make a difference.
